Materfamilias Church Theology 
Materfamilias Church is a matriarchal religion. That men are spiritually unclean is a key tenet. Before selling a slave to a Mistress Owner, purification is mandated. An ancient ritual, practiced for millennia. While many early beliefs have been discarded, the tradition remains.
The slave man is taken to one of the vaults beneath a Materfamilias Temple. Locked in cell for three days he consumes only a few crumbs of food and a small bowls of a priestess' urine.
Ritual purification begins on the morning of the fourth day.
Suspended upside down he awaits the arrival of one of the special cadre of priestesses who perform the rite.
She brings with her special branding irons. Certain symbols will be burned into the slave man's flesh. The exact meanings of the symbols are lost. In ancient times, they denoted the inherent inferiority of males.
The priestess burns the firs symbol on the slave man's inner thighs. The priestess pauses for about a half hour.
She brands the second symbol on slave's phallus. The scar will render erections painful for a long time.
Again, there is a pause. He is screaming but the priestess enjoys the sound of his anguished pain.
Finally she brands his scrotal sac. Lucky slave men pass out.
Cut down and left alone in the cell for the night the slave cannot sleep. Alone and ignored, he weeps through the night. His physical suffering continues for days. Ancient Materfamilias theology suggests that his agony is proof that the purification of proper performance.
In the morning, he is sent to his new Mistress Owner.
Purification does not elevate a slave man's status. It is a formality and custom.
